Moudi Sbeity

Intern
(he/they)

Salam, my name is Moudi and I use he/they pronouns.

I am a first-generation immigrant from Lebanon dedicating my time and passion to collectively building a more possible world. I am currently completing my masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Naropa University with a focus on a mindfulness based approach from a transpersonal view. This means I approach therapy from an integrative and holistic perspective of the whole person as a relational being in an interconnected world. My natural orientation is to connect body, heart, mind, and spirit as a place of sacred intimacy in the web of being alive.

Prior to attending Naropa, I co-owned and operated a Lebanese restaurant in Salt Lake City, which also served as a safe space for the queer community. I was also a named plaintiff in Kitchen v. Herbert, the landmark case that brought marriage equality to Utah and the 10th circuit states in 2014. I am also a person who experiences covert stuttering, which means my speech can sometimes present as interrupted. The intersectionalities of my path as a queer identifying immigrant with a speech disfluency have attuned me towards compassion, kindness, and the necessity of honest and authentic expression as a way to honor the possibility in each of us. Just as a seed blooms in the right conditions, so do we become and blossom into our joyous selves when loved and encouraged.

As your therapist, my commitment is to co-create a brave space in which you can explore, discover, and express every part of yourself. I weave elements of poetry, writing practice, and mindfulness as a way to touch deeper and explore the inner landscape of your experience. My role is to walk alongside you as you chart your path back towards belonging, face difficult questions and behaviors, and empower you in rewriting your narrative. Often what I find is that while we cannot change what happened, we can reauthor the way we tell the story of what happened.

I look forward to getting to know you. May you be well, in peace, and at ease.
