Dez Hernandez

Dez is a Queer, non- binary, Latinx therapist who holds an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Naropa University. Dez also holds BAs in Psychology and Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Connecticut. Dez is passionate about the power of heart- centered community care. They believe that, as social creatures, we are meant to help, hold, and support one another. Dez honors the power of the collective while also recognizing the wholeness and uniqueness inherent within each of us. They believe that we each have a limitless capacity for healing and growth, which can be facilitated by safe, nurturing relationships. Dez’s approach to therapy is non-judgmental, connective and client- centered. While they are trained in mindfulness- based work, they integrate multiple evidence- based counseling modalities to best meet their individual clients’ needs. Based on their own life experiences, Dez has a deep sense of empathy for individuals who have complex identities, as well as those who have experienced trauma, loss, and grief. Dez is committed to decolonizing therapy by exploring oppression that has been culturally conditioned, resolving and healing personal and intergenerational trauma, and cultivating and strengthening resilience. Dez is honored to work with individuals from teen age and up, from all identities and backgrounds. They want you to know: all of you is welcome here.
