Amit Ratna Shakya

Intern, Clinical Therapist
(he/him)

Hi there. My name is Amit Ratna Shakya (he/him), pronounced like “Uh-Mitt.” I was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal but went to Western boarding schools in Nepal and India since I was six. I have lived in the US since I was 17 years old. I have a previous Master’s Degree in Indian and Tibetan Buddhism and am currently pursuing a Mental Health Counseling degree from Adams University. I have worked the last nine years as a counselor at Windhorse Community Services, a Buddhist-inspired home-based mental health counseling organization, and am currently a Team Leader there.

I believe in the deep healing power of relationships, and the need to explore conceptually, emotionally, and somatically all interconnected parts that make up who we are. This is an almost impossible journey to do alone, and we all need a helping hand- whether that is someone being a witness, or offering concrete steps in terms of finding resources internal and external. I think of therapy as a co-created journey of exploring this inter-subjective reality together. Given my background, I am very flexible in my approach and hope my genuine curiosity, trust, empathy, and ability to hold your experience as required will be helpful.

I have lived in Boulder, CO since 2012 and love playing Table Tennis on the club level, recreational Pickleball, woodworking to modify and set up guitars, playing music, helping friends out with free car repairs, and always love a respectful heated discussion.

I also have conversational fluency in Newari, Nepali, and Hindi if that helps you feel more comfortable.
