Tesia Swanstrom

Clinical Therapist - Trainee
(she/her)

Being a human being is not an easy thing and we all confront challenges as we move through life. Therapy can help along that journey. For me, therapy is a collaborative process; we will work together to explore how different facets of your life (social, biological, spiritual, internal and external factors) support and/or pose barriers between you and wellbeing. How all of your identities intersect with one another, in all aspects of life, matter. My approach centers compassion, curiosity, empathy, non-judgement and authenticity to help you build self-awareness, insight, and process what comes along. As a strength-based, client-centered, trauma informed counselor, I seek to highlight your gifts, respect your self-knowledge, and understand your pain. In my therapeutic practice, I draw from Gestalt, attachment, systems understanding, mindfulness, CBT, mind-body connection and social justice. Therapy can be scary and challenging, yet I believe we have the ability to change, grow, learn and evolve, no matter age or background.

As a clinical intern completing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Antioch University, some of my areas of focus include depression, anxiety, trauma, family issues, career, dating, codependency, coping skills, sacred journeys, substance use, ethical non-monogamy, all racial, gender and sexual orientations, including Bi/Pan/Queer.

I identify as biracial/ethnic Mexican-American, half white/European-American and a member of the LGBT+ population. My identities help me see the complexity and beauty of every individual and community. In my free time, I enjoy many outdoor activities, hiking, camping, plants, animals, music, movies, travel and spending time with friends and loved ones.
